Streamwise inclination angle of wall-attached eddies in turbulent channel flows

چکیده

We develop a new methodology to assess the streamwise inclination angles (SIAs) of wall-attached eddies populating logarithmic region with given wall-normal height. To remove influences originating from other scales on SIA estimated via two-point correlation, footprints targeted in vicinity wall and corresponding velocity fluctuations carried by them are isolated simultaneously, coupling spectral stochastic estimation attached-eddy hypothesis. Datasets produced direct numerical simulations spanning $Re_{\tau } \sim O(10^2)\unicode{x2013}O(10^3)$ dissected study Reynolds number effect. The present results show, for first time, that SIAs attached Reynolds-number-dependent low medium numbers, tend saturate at $45^{\circ }$ as increases. mean reported vast previous experimental studies demonstrated be outcomes additive effect contributed multi-scale eddies. These findings clarify long-term debate perfect picture model.

Eddies , Streams , and Convergence Zones in Turbulent Flows

Recent studies of turbulent shear flows have shown that many of their important kinematical and dynamical properties can be more clearly understood by describing the flows in terms of individual ‘events’ or streamline patterns. Examples of such events might be high values of filtered vorticity (Hussain 1986) or high velocity, perhaps in combination with straining (Adrian & Moin 1988), or high R...

Assessment of Turbulent Models in Computation of Strongly Curved Open Channel Flows

Several rigorous turbulent models have been developed in the past years and it can be seen that more research is needed to reach a better understanding of their generality and precision by verifying their applications for distinct hydraulic phenomena; under certain assumptions. This survey evaluates the performance of Standard k-ε, Realizable k-ε, RNG k-ε, k-ω and RSM models in predicting flow ...

The largest scales of turbulent wall flows

The small scales of wall-bounded turbulent flows have received a lot of attention in recent years, especially in the near-wall region, in part because of the availability of direct numerical simulations that made their detailed study possible (Kim, Moin & Moser 1987). Since those simulations had necessarily moderate Reynolds numbers and little or no separation between their largest and smallest...
